Five Star Leicester Leicester City showed their credentials of breaking into the top six this season after a great performance against Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium in Sunday where the Foxes won 5-0. Leicester were without James Maddison who was out due to injury. Ricardo Pereira opened the scoring for the hosts in the 16th minute then two minutes before halftime, Newcastle were down to ten men after Isaac Hayden received a red card for a rash challenge on Dennis Praet. Things went from bad to worse in the second half for the Magpies. Jamie Vardy scored twice in the second half with Paul Dummett scoring an own goal as well. Late in the 90th minute, Wilfred Ndidi put the icing on the cake scoring the fifth goal giving Leicester a resounding win as they go third on the table, with a trip to Anfield next week. Liverpool get 2-1 win at the Bridge  Liverpool remain perfect in the Premier League so far this season as they got a 2-1 victory against Chelsea on Sunday at Stamford Bridge. Both sides were looking to bounce back from midweek defeats in the Champions League, and it was the Reds that took the initiative in the first half as they went in front from Trent Alexander-Arnold who scored a stunning free-kick. Chelsea thought they equalized from César Azpilicueta but was ruled out for offside by VAR. Few minutes later, Roberto Firmino scored Liverpool's second from another set piece. Chelsea upped their game in the second half, putting pressure on Liverpool and their belief grew more when N'golo Kante scored a lovely goal to get Chelsea back in the game. Chances from Michy Batshuayi and Mason Mount could have given the Blues a point but Liverpool held on for their 15th consecutive win in the Premier League while Chelsea still wait for a first victory for Frank Lampard at St

5 Things from the Champions League (Matchday 1)

Image
The Champions League is back with the first round of group stage games already completed with more to come. It may be early days but here are the five things from Matchday 1. Deja Vu in Naples for Liverpool  Last season, Liverpool visited Napoli at the San Paolo and were second best, losing the game 1-0. This time, they arrived at Naples as European champions as they started off their title defence with a 2-0 defeat with goals from Dries Mertens and Fernando Llorente on Tuesday. Both Napoli and Liverpool had chances in the game to score but Liverpool lacked the final touch and Napoli was kept out by Adrian, who made a fantastic save to keep the score level. Things went in Napoli's were awarded a penalty when José Callejón was brought down by Andy Robertson. Mertens netted the spot kick despite Adrian getting a hand to it as Napoli got the lead with eight minutes left to play. A rare error from Virgil van Dijk was capitalized by Fernando Llorente who scored the second go

5 Players to Watch this UCL season

Image
The UEFA Champions League is back with the first group games happening tonight. There are players who we will be looking out for this season from how they can make an impact at their new club or someone who's going to burst in the scene. How are the five players to watch this UCL season. João Félix  Atlético Madrid splashed the cash over the summer but raised a few eyebrows when they signed 19 year old João Félix from Benfica for €126m and whether the jump up was too soon. However, Félix looks at home at Atléti, continuing the work he did at Benfica. Last season, he scored 15 goals and 7 assists in the Primeira Liga Nos as well as becoming the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt. 2.3 shots per game and 1 key pass per game in the Europa League last season, Félix is the new face of Atlético Madrid as the Rojiblancos start life after Griezmann. Kai Havertz  Kai Havertz is one of the brightest young players t

Norwich get shock win over City Norwich City have pulled off one of the shocks of the season so far, beating the defending champions Manchester City 3-2 on Saturday at Carrow Road. Hit by an injury crisis, the Canaries didn't feel intimidated and went at City, a brave thing to do despite City's strengths. Kenny McLean and Todd Cantwell scored to give Norwich a two lead before Sergio Agüero halved their lead before halftime. Teemu Pukki scored his 7th goal of the season to put Norwich 3-1 up with Carrow Road feeling like dreamland. However, Rodri made it 3-2 in the last two minutes, bringing up the tension and with City's pressure in the last few moments of the game, the Canaries held on to a famous win as City have lost for the first time in the league since February against Newcastle. Barça score five past Valencia Barcelona got their league campaign back on track, beating Valencia 5-2 at the Camp Nou on Saturday. Ansu Fati started with Lionel Messi still ou

Champions League Favourites and Dark Horses

Image
The UEFA Champions League season starts next week Tuesday as the best teams across Europe battle it out to play in the Final at the Atatürk Stadium in Istanbul next year. So who are the favourites to win it and who are the dark horses that could surprise us like Ajax did last year? Favourites  Manchester City  This surely has to be their season Manchester City. They have dominated the Premier League and are in the conversation as one of the best teams in the Premier League era with four league titles in eight years. However, they have been unable to bring that to Europe. Under their current ownership, City have only reach the semifinals once in 2016 and under Pep Guardiola, have suffered defeats to Liverpool, Tottenham and Monaco in the knockout stages. The Citizens have the best squad in the competition in terms of depth and quality of the players and manager, which also includes their recent summer signings in Rodri and João Cancelo. Things should come together for

Neymar stuck at PSG. Now What?

Image
Neymar, Neymar, Neymar. It was difficult to hear any major transfer story from the recent summer window that the Brazilian wasn't mentioned. Neymar has constantly stated his desire to leave Paris Saint-Germain with a return to Barcelona. However, the transfer window has gone shut and Neymar will be licking his wounds as Barcelona and PSG were unable to get a deal done. So what now for the 27 year old? It is not denying that Neymar is one of the best players around in the game. From his rise to stardom at Santos to being part of one of the best attacking front threes this decade at Barcelona, scoring 105 goals in 186 games, winning two La Liga title and the Champions League, he looked to become Football's next superstar after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. That's not to mention his record for Brazil, scoring 60 goals in 97 caps. Only Pele and Ronaldo have scored more goals for the Seleção. When he moved to Paris from Barcelona for a world record fee of €222m in 2

Winners & Losers from the Summer Transfer Window

Image
The Summer Transfer Window has ended for all across Europe yesterday evening with the deadline day and there will be no transfer activity till January next year. The summer transfer window has seen some major deals done particularly in La Liga and Serie A but who were the biggest winners and losers from this transfer window? Winners  Atlético Madrid  Losing the likes of Antonie Griezmann, Rodri, Diego Godín, Juanfran and Filipe Luís, who were instrumental to Atléti's success under Diego Simeone, one could think that Atlético Madrid will struggle but they took action. They have spent €250m on the likes of Kieran Trippier, Marcos Llorente, Felipe, Lodi and Héctor Herrera. Their biggest acquisition is Portuguese wonderkid João Félix for a staggering €126m for Benfica. A lot of responsibility in on the 19 year old's shoulder but with what we have seen so far, he looks at home under Simeone and is the face of the 'new' Atlético Madrid.  Juventus

Stalemate in North London Derby Arsenal came two goals down to salvage a point against North London rivals Tottenham at the Emirates with the game ending 2-2. However, both Spurs' goals were the doing of a number of errors by the Gunners. Poor positioning from Sokratis and a poor save by Bernd Leno enabled Christian Eriksen to score a tap-in in the first ten minutes and Harry Kane added a second from the penalty spot after a ridiculous tackle from Granit Xhaka in the penalty box. Before halftime, Arsenal got back in the game from Alexandre Lacazette netting a fierce shot. In the second half, Arsenal had more control in midfield which they lacked in the first and they were rewarded with an equalizer from Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. Things got heated in the final minutes from fouls and dives but both couldn't find a winner as Spurs' poor record at the Emirates continues. Barça drop points at Osasuna Barcelona's indifferent start to the season continues as they
