Bundesliga  It's getting to crunch time with seven games remaining in the Bundesliga, as 19 goals were scored from the past weekend. The biggest tie was the title race clash between Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday. Bayern, who were playing without Robert Lewandowski, saw off Leipzig with a 1-0 win courtesy of Leon Goretzka. Probably the tie that decides the title. There was the Berlin Derby between Union Berlin and Hertha Berlin, which ended 1-1 which boosted Hertha's chances of staying up. André Silva scored the winner for Eintracht Frankfurt against Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalonstadion as Die Alder won 2-1, hurting Dortmund's chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season. Mainz and Arminia Bielefeld played out a 1-1 draw which keeps Arminia in the relegation zone. The draw for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League took place on Monday with the Round of 16 games taking place in February 2021. Here's a reaction from the draw plus who's likely to go through from these match-ups. Borussia Mönchengladbach v Manchester City  Borussia Mönchengladbach shocked many in qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League, getting points off Real Madrid and Inter Milan. However, their reward will be facing Manchester City in the Round of 16. The Germans will have it difficult to do against Pep Guardiola's team despite going to the Etihad in the second leg. As for Manchester City, this is a favourable draw but will be cautious of Gladbach's aggressive pressing play, which was brought in by their manager Marco Rose.   The 2020/21 Champions League season is about to commence quite soon. The playoffs have been completed, and the draw for the group stages took place on Thursday, October 1st as the Road to the Final in Istanbul begins. The UEFA Player Awards also took place as Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski won the UEFA Best Player Award plus the Best Forward award for his exploits last season, scoring over 50 goals in all competition. Premier League Action Twenty-nine goals were scored this past weekend with two matches left, with penalties galore as seven penalties were awarded this past weekend. The highlight match of the weekend was Manchester City 5-2 home defeat to Leicester City. Jamie Vardy netted a hat-trick, with two goals from the penalty spot while James Maddison netted an absolute peach of a goal as Pep Guardiola has to sort out City's defensive woes this season as this is the first time in his managerial career that he has conceded five goals in a home game. For Brendan Rodgers' side, this was their first win away from home since January, and Vardy already has five goals this season, tied with Everton's Dominic Calvert-Levin. Bruno Fernandes scored a 100th minute penalty to give Manchester United their first win of the season in a quite fortunate 3-2 win against Brighton which was engulfed in some controversy, particularly with the late penalty that was given to United. The 2020/2021 Football season has gone underway with the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Serie A all in action. The Premier League has been covered, so this is on the Bundesliga, La Liga, and Serie A to look at how this season will pan out from the title race to the race for European places.  La Liga The 2020/2021 La Liga season started on the 12th of September with Eibar playing against Celta Vigo, which ended in a goalless draw. The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atlético Madrid rested on the first weekend due to their participation in the latter stages of the Champions League last season. Barcelona has dominated La Liga over the past decade, winning six titles between 2011 to 2020. However, the Blaugrana missed out on the title last season to Real Madrid, with Zidane's side favourites to retain La Liga this season. Premier League Action The Premier League is slowly reaching its conclusion with the race for Champions League football and the battle for relegation survival heating up. Norwich City were officially relegated from the Premier League after a 4-0 defeat to West Ham United. The Canaries have found the jump from the Championship difficult losing 24 of their 35 games played, conceding 67 goals. Watford beat Newcastle 2-1, boosting their survival chances. Liverpool dropped points at home for the first time this season after a 1-1 draw against Burnley with Jay Rodriguez scoring the equalizer. Raheem Sterling scored a hat-trick as Manchester City hammered Brighton. Sheffield United threw a spanner at Chelsea's Champions Leagues hopes, defeating the Blues 3-0 at Bramall Lane. The Football season across Europe has been put on hold since March with the spread of COVID-19 affecting the entire world and many industries with football being no exception. The Eredivisie had announced that the 2019/2020 season will be null and void meaning there will be no champion and relegation while the French government has cancelled all sporting events till the end of August meaning Ligue 1 has ended abruptly with PSG winning the league from a point-per-game ratio. Now, leagues across Europe are returning with the Bundesliga already returned with four matchdays remaining. La Liga will make its return on June 11th with the Seville derby between Sevilla and Real Betis. So where have we left off from the Spanish First Division? Five Star Leicester Leicester City showed their credentials of breaking into the top six this season after a great performance against Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium in Sunday where the Foxes won 5-0. Leicester were without James Maddison who was out due to injury. Ricardo Pereira opened the scoring for the hosts in the 16th minute then two minutes before halftime, Newcastle were down to ten men after Isaac Hayden received a red card for a rash challenge on Dennis Praet. Things went from bad to worse in the second half for the Magpies. Jamie Vardy scored twice in the second half with Paul Dummett scoring an own goal as well. Late in the 90th minute, Wilfred Ndidi put the icing on the cake scoring the fifth goal giving Leicester a resounding win as they go third on the table, with a trip to Anfield next week. The Champions League is back with the first round of group stage games already completed with more to come. It may be early days but here are the five things from Matchday 1. Deja Vu in Naples for Liverpool  Last season, Liverpool visited Napoli at the San Paolo and were second best, losing the game 1-0. This time, they arrived at Naples as European champions as they started off their title defence with a 2-0 defeat with goals from Dries Mertens and Fernando Llorente on Tuesday. Both Napoli and Liverpool had chances in the game to score but Liverpool lacked the final touch and Napoli was kept out by Adrian, who made a fantastic save to keep the score level. Things went in Napoli's were awarded a penalty when José Callejón was brought down by Andy Robertson. Mertens netted the spot kick despite Adrian getting a hand to it as Napoli got the lead with eight minutes left to play.
