When the current German Bundesliga started in August last year, it seemed certain that Bayern Munich would retain the Mesterschale again for a record-extending twelfth time. Bayern Munich is the most successful team in German football and has dominated the Bundesliga for a decade. Despite their poor finish last season, they still managed to win the Bundesliga thanks to a capitulation from their title rivals Borussia Dortmund on the last day of the season, drawing 2-2 at home to Mainz and losing the title on goal difference. Dortmund fans were distraught and tearful as a rare chance to win the title over Bayern fell out of their grasp. The 2022/23 German Bundesliga starts on the 5th of August when Eintracht Frankfurt hosts defending champions Bayern Munich at the Deutsche Bank Park. The 60th edition of the German top flight sees the return of both Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen to the top flight, Freiburg and Union Berlin, new faces and new goals for the upcoming season.   La Liga 26 goals were scored in the Spanish top flight this past weekend as we are approaching the business end of the season, with only ten games remaining. Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and, Real Madrid all won their games this past weekend, as the title race drags on. Barcelona got the biggest win of the three, beating Real Sociedad 6-1 at the Anoeta with Lionel Messi and American right-back Sergino Dest both scoring braces in a big win for the Blaugrana. Atletico Madrid kept their four-point lead at the summit of the league table, beating Alaves 1-0 at home. Luis Suarez scored the only goal of the game, which was his 500th career goal, a milestone for the Uruguayan. Real Madrid went away to Celta Vigo and, got a 3-1 win thanks to Karim Benzema, who scored two goals. The 2020/2021 Football season has gone underway with the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Serie A all in action. The Premier League has been covered, so this is on the Bundesliga, La Liga, and Serie A to look at how this season will pan out from the title race to the race for European places.  La Liga The 2020/2021 La Liga season started on the 12th of September with Eibar playing against Celta Vigo, which ended in a goalless draw. The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atlético Madrid rested on the first weekend due to their participation in the latter stages of the Champions League last season. Barcelona has dominated La Liga over the past decade, winning six titles between 2011 to 2020. However, the Blaugrana missed out on the title last season to Real Madrid, with Zidane's side favourites to retain La Liga this season. The 2019/2020 Bundesliga season has ended albeit in strange circumstances with the global pandemic forcing the season to go on hold for several weeks. Nevertheless, the season was finally completed on June 27th as Bayern Munich become champions for the eighth consecutive year, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Borussia Mönchengladbach completed the top four as they play in the Champions League next season. Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim will be playing in the Europa League next year while Paderborn and Fortuna Düsseldorf will be playing in 2.Bundesliga as they were relegated while Werder Bremen played in the promotion/relegation playoff and just stayed up against Heidenheim on away goals. Premier League Action The race for the Champions League spots and the battle for Premier League survival had further spins and turns this past weekend in the Premier League. Brighton look like that will play Premier League football next season whilst sealing Norwich's demotion back to the Championship after the Seagulls beat the Canaries 1-0. Manchester United's front three were at it again keeping in the hunt for the top 4 after hammering Bournemouth 5-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday. Leicester's Jamie Vardy was back scoring goals as the Foxes beating Crystal Palace 3-0. He also joined the 100 club as he has now scored over a hundred goals in the Premier League. Cheslea are still 4th place after beating Watford 3-0 but Wolves have lost some ground over their top four rivals losing at home to Arsenal 2-0 with Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette scoring for the Gunners . The German Top Flight or the Bundesliga starts this weekend as the defending champions Bayern Munich kick things off tonight at the Allianz Arena against Hertha Berlin. The Bundesliga is renowned for its promotion of youth, heavy pressing and infrastructure. As the season gets closer to its end, games carry more weight than usual that one mistake can be catastrophic and hurts the chances of any team's quest for a title, a place in Europe or a relegation fight. Here are the highlights from the weekend. United and Liverpool in rugged stalemate Manchester United and Liverpool played to a goalless draw at Old Trafford in Sunday that took Liverpool back on top of the Premier League but by only one point. The game was massive for both sides. United in damaging the title hopes of their rivals and Liverpool in making a statement win in a ground where Liverpool have won just twice over the past decade. The first half was frantic with a lot of hard challenges coming from both teams but seems to affect United with Ole Gunnar Solskjær forced to make three substitution with Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard coming off while Marcus Rashford had to carry a knock throughout the game. EPL: Manchester United V Liverpool This season has brought a lot of twists and turns in the title race with Manchester City and Liverpool going neck and neck between each other for the title as they are level on points but Liverpool have a game in hand. That game in hand is against a resurgent Manchester United at Old Trafford in Sunday. Since the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Manchester United have gained more points and wins than any other team. Part of that is due to the form of Paul Pogba. The French midfielder has been in fantastic form scoring eight goals since the Norwegian took over. It's likely they will be without Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard for the game on Sunday, with Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata deployed in their absence.
