The 2022/23 Premier League season is the 31st of the Premier League era, with new faces coming into the English top-flight over the transfer window, which is still ongoing, the three promoted sides from the EFL Championship and new goals and ambitions for many over the new season. This season will be very different from seasons gone by, with the World Cup disrupting the season as the competition starts on November 21st. SOUTHAMPTON. FINAL POSITION: 10TH Southampton finished 11th last season but following their 9-0 home defeat to Leicester City, staying up for the Saints would have been enough to make it a successful season. They did not get themselves in a relegation battle as Southampton finished the season on a high. Ralph Hassenhuttl has already made plans for the coming season, signing Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu and English defender Kyle Walker-Peters. They have lost midfield stalwart Pierre-Emile Højbjerg to Spurs, Mario Lemina moved to Fulham, Cédric and Maya Yoshida have all moved away from St. Mary. Newcastle United. Potential Finish: 19th. Final Position: 13th Steve Bruce was appointed following the departure of Rafa Benítez. It was an unpopular choice as Steve Bruce have not managed a Premier League team in four years and Benítez was a popular figure on Tyneside. The former Sunderland manager was able to shut down his critics as the Magpies finished comfortably in mid-table without any fear of relegation. The football was not pleasing for everyone with Newcastle playing an ultra-defensive style of play and only scored 38 goals. Only Norwich, Watford and Crystal Palace scored less goals. Allan Saint-Maximin gave Newcastle fans some excitement with his trickery while Joelinton has been a massive flop following his £40 million pound move from Hoffenheim. Premier League Action The race for the Champions League spots and the battle for Premier League survival had further spins and turns this past weekend in the Premier League. Brighton look like that will play Premier League football next season whilst sealing Norwich's demotion back to the Championship after the Seagulls beat the Canaries 1-0. Manchester United's front three were at it again keeping in the hunt for the top 4 after hammering Bournemouth 5-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday. Leicester's Jamie Vardy was back scoring goals as the Foxes beating Crystal Palace 3-0. He also joined the 100 club as he has now scored over a hundred goals in the Premier League. Cheslea are still 4th place after beating Watford 3-0 but Wolves have lost some ground over their top four rivals losing at home to Arsenal 2-0 with Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette scoring for the Gunners . Wolves Leave City Stunned It may be early days in the season so far but Wolves have given City a big blow to the title aspirations this season, winning the game 2-0 at the Etihad on Sunday as City remain eight points behind Liverpool going into the international break after eight games. The away side did well to limit the amount of chances City got in the first half whilst having chances of their own with Patrick Cutrone and Raul Jiménez unable to capitalize whenever Wolves were on the counter attack. The defending champions had the majority of possession but were still unable to break Wolves' defence with their best chance coming from a free kick by David Silva that hit the crossbar. The Premier League will make it's return on the 9th of August and we continue the preview of the upcoming season with the next seven teams based on their potential final position come May next year. Burnley. Final Position: 13th No one expected Burnley to replicate what they did in 2017/18 when they finished 7th and qualified for Europe for the first time in 50 years. Despite getting eliminated very early, they were poor last season and were in the relegation dogfight last season but managed to stay up, finishing 15th.  They have brought in Jay Rodgríuez and Erik Pieters and have let go of Tom Heaton and Stephen Ward. Sean Dyche's will trouble teams throughout the season and while they are not catchy on the eye, they are one of the lowest ranked teams in terms of goals and possession, they are effective at what they do, which will give them a mid-table finish this season. The football season is over with the Europa League and Champions League Final the only games left to see from the season that just concluded. The teams that won their leagues last season defended their titles. However, let's look at the teams that achieved more than what many expected. 2018 is about to go past us as it has been an eventful year in the game. The Premier League and Serie A continued their league season with the final league matches of 2018 as the Serie A will have their winter break. Here are the highlights from the final weekend of 2018. Arsenal annihilated at Anfield Liverpool capped off their final league game of the year with a resounding 5-1 win against Arsenal at Anfield.
