Sevilla's Last Six Europa League Triumphs

Sevilla have done it again. They were crowned champions of the UEFA Europa League for a record-extending seventh time after defeating Jose Mourinho's AS Roma 4-1 on penalties after the game finished 1-1 after extra time at the Puska Arena in Budapest on May 31st. Paulo Dybala opened the scoring for Roma in the 34th minute before an own goal from Gianluca Mancini levelled the score. In a combative final, referee Anthony Taylor dished out fourteen yellow cards in the match, the most in a Europa League game . Argentine defender Gonzalo Montiel scored the winning penalty to give Sevilla the title and qualify for next year's Champions League.   The Europa League Final is set to take place at the Stadion Miejskal in the city of Gdansk, Poland on Wednesday, May 26th. It is the first of two European finals which will cap off the 2020/2021 European season with the Champions League Final coming on May 29th. Villarreal will face Manchester United to see who will win Europe's secondary competition. A chance of European glory for Villarreal or concluding a good season with a trophy for Manchester United? Villarreal For Villarreal, they have made history. This will be their first ever major European final. They have won the UEFA Intertoto Cup twice in 2003 and 2004 but their best major performance in a major European competition was in the 2006 UEFA Champions League where they reached the semifinals, losing to Arsenal. Bayern Complete Season with a Treble Bayern Munich ended their 2019/20 season with an unprecedented treble as they won the Champions League for the sixth time in the club's history, after beating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon. Both teams have won their leagues and the domestic cup competition with winning the Champions League the icing on the cake. Both Thomas Tuchel and Hansi Flick made little changes to their starting lineups with Keylor Navas returning from injury for PSG while Kingsley Coman started ahead of Ivan Perišić for Bayern Munich. Despite no goals in the first half, it was a tense game with both sides giving each other little opportunity to strike a blow. Road to the Europa League Final

The Europa League Final is set to take place on Friday at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, Germany with Sevilla and Inter Milan battling out for Europe's secondary cup competition. The final was suppose to take place at the Stadion Energa Gdańsk in Gdańsk, Poland on May 27th. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the later stages of the competition were postponed. The competition resumed in July with the knockout stages of the competition still to be completed. The games were played in Germany in order for the teams to be together in one space and for safety precautions. Also, all their knockout stages were played without any fans in attendance. The knockout games are now finally completed with Inter Milan facing Sevilla. Atletico Madrid wins the UEFA Super Cup

Julen Lopetegui ended his first competitive game in defeat as Atletico Madrid beat their city rivals Real Madrid 4-2 winning the UEFA Super Cup. This was Madrid’s first game without Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo starting Bale and Benzema together as well as Keylor Navas in goal as Thibaut Courtois wasn’t part of the matchday squad. Antoine Griezmann started for Atletico after winning the World Cup with France while Thomas Lemar and Rodri were given their full debuts. Diego Simeone was in the stands as his four-match ban by UEFA continues leaving his assistant German Burgos with the responsibilities on the touchline. The match was held at the A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn, Estonia. Atletico took the lead in less than a minute from Diego Costa winning a header from Sergio Ramos before scoring from a tight angle.
