League Action from the weekend

Here are the talking points from what happened from the weekend's football action

Emotional Leicester Win

Leicester City played their first game after the fatal helicopter crash where five people lost their lives including Leicester City Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. A minute of silence was done before each Premier League match from the weekend. For Leicester City, they went away to face Cardiff City and managed a 1-0 win courtesy of a goal from Demarai Grey. The emotions from the goal and before the match itself explained the close relationship between Vichai and the Leicester City squad and a win was dedication to the man responsible for Leicester's miraculous title win.

City & Chelsea win, Liverpool drop points

The top three in the Premier League remained unbeaten which is the first time since 1978/79 that three teams remain unbeaten from their first 11 games. However, Liverpool were the clear losers as they could only muster a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday. That was enough for the Reds to go top before City and Chelsea played on Sunday as City destroyed Southampton 6-1 at the Etihad while Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. City remain top of the league while Liverpool and Chelsea are behind by two points. No margin of error.

Suárez inspires Barça comeback

Luis Suárez continues to step up in Messi's absence as Barcelona came from behind to beat Rayo Vallecano 3-2 at the Estadio del Rayo Vallecano. The Uruguayan opened the scoring in the 10th minutes before José Pozo and Àlvaro Garcia gave the home side the lead. However, Barça got back in front in the last three minutes in normal with Dembélé coming from the bench to score the equaliser before Suárez got the important third goal. The win keeps Barcelona top in La Liga with 24 points. Four points clear of Sevilla.

Madrid end five game losing streak

Real Madrid have started life well under intern coach Santiago Solari getting a 2-0 win against Valladolid at the Bernabéu. It wasn't an easy win for Los Blancos with the likes of Gareth Bale being singled out for his performance. One particular player that took his chance was youngster Vinicius Junior scoring his first goal in Madrid colours giving Solari a debut La Liga win which takes them up to 6th in the table. Three points off the Champions League spots. A new lease of life.

Inter put five past Genoa

Inter Milan have made seven league wins in a row as The Nerazzuri beat Genoa 5-0 to stay second behind Juventus. Starting without captain Mauro Icardi, they were sufficient in their chances with goals from Nainggolan, Politano, Joao Mário and a brace from Roberto Gagliardini ensured three points for the blue side of Milan. With the other players, it's a sure confidence boost before they face Barcelona at the San Diego in midweek.

Milan go fourth

A late goal from defender Alessio Romagnoli pushed AC Milan to the top 4 in Serie A for the first time this season after they beat Udinese 1-0. It wasn't easy work for Rossoneri especially Milan forwards Gonzalo Hiugain and Patrick Cutrone getting just one shot on target between them as Hiugain was subbed off due to a back injury before Romagnoli scored in the 97th minute making it three straight wins for Gennaro Gattuso's men as they're above Lazio, who won their game against SPAL 4-1, on goal difference.

Dortmund keep winning

Borussia Dortmund have continued their impressive start to the Bundesliga with seven wins in their first ten games after beating Wolfsburg 1-0. Scoring goals for fun, BVB were wasteful in their shooting with only one shot from their 12 going on target. However, that shot on target was the winning goal courtesy of captain Marco Reus netting his sixth league goal of the season. Dortmund remain top, four points above Bayern and Gladbach and their next game is against Bayern which will be their biggest test so far this season.

Top performer - Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling has become a fearsome winger with end product under Pep Guardiola. He was the standout performer from the weekend scoring twice and making three assists as well as taking four shots (three on target) and three key passes. Clearing building on his 18 league goals last season.
