League football across Europe

With the international break already underway, here's a recap of football across Europe.

La Liga

After 8 games into the season, it's Sevilla that tops the table with 16 points. Los Hispalenses have won 5 of their eight games which a 3-0 win against Real Madrid with André Silva easily one of their best performers scoring 7 in 8 league games. Barcelona are second with 15 points with the defending champions winless in their last four league games which includes a shock 2-1 defeat against Leganes. The Blaugrana again have been reliant on Lionel Messi, who have made 10 goal contributions in eight games. Almost half of Barça's 19 goals. Real Madrid have found it difficult post-CR7 currently fourth, winless in four including defeats to Sevilla and Alavés with no goals in those four games. Atlético Madrid are third behind Barcelona by goal difference and have managed to recover from a poor start getting 10 points from their last four games, possibly rolling to a title challenge this season.

Serie A

It looks like Juventus are going to win Serie A with ease this season as them and PSG are the only team from Europe's top 5 leagues yet to drop points so far this season, despite not playing at their best and Allegri still trying to find the team's perfect balance. Cristiano Ronaldo is looking more creative for The Old Lady scoring 3 and assisting 4 in seven league games. Napoli have adjusted fine under Carlo Ancelotti currently second with 18 points. Lazio and Inter have started the season well taking the final two Champions League spots while Roma and Milan have had indifferent starts. The surprise package in Serie A has been Genoa forward Krzysztof Piątek. The Polish striker, in his first season in Italy is the current top scorer with 8 league goals and 12 in all competitions. Juventus and Allegri are still going strong with Napoli and Inter their close challengers but both sides have lost twice.

Bundesliga

Bayern are having their troubles under new manager Niko Kovač. Die Bayern sit sixth in the table with 13 points, four points off the top of the table and have won only one in their last four league with two defeats against Hertha Berlin and Gladbach. Schalke have had a terrible start, sitting 15th with only six points. One point above the relegation play-off spot. Leverkusen and Hoffenheim have also had poor starts currently in mid-table while RB Leipzig have started the season well with 14 points. Three points off the top. Borussia Dortmund have been one of the most exciting teams in Europe this season. They're top of the league unbeaten with 17 points scoring 23 games, the most in the league. Marco Reus looks sharp scoring four league goals with new signing Paco Alcacer currently the top goalscorer with 5 goals in 81 minutes. One particular player to highlight from Der BVB is English winger Jadon Sancho who has made six assists and all came from the bench. There will be questions on whether Lucien Favre's side can sustain a title challenge but they're exciting to watch.

Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain have been killing it in Ligue 1 topping the league with a perfect 9 wins in 9 league games scoring 32 goals. The front three of PSG have scored 21 goals between them with Neymar and Kylian Mbappé joint top scorers with 8 goals each for the Parisians. Lyon, the team likely to finish behind them are currently sixth and experienced a 5-0 hammering from PSG giving little to no chance of a title race. Marseille have started brightly sitting in third with 16 points with Payet and Thauvin their best performers. Lille are having a great start, second behind PSG with 19 points with Nicolas Pépé a highlight scoring 6 and assisting 4. Monaco has been nothing short of a disaster. Sitting 18th in the league with only 1 win, they have been very underwhelming and with the added competition with Lyon, Marseille, Lille and Nice, getting Champions League will be a real struggle.
