Premier League
The Bundesliga season finished off on Saturday with the main focus on the final day being who will join Schalke in the 2.Bundesliga. Unfortunately, Werder Bremen will be joining them after a 4-2 defeat at home to Gladbach. FC Koln won 1-0 against Schalke to play in the promotion/relegation play-off against Holstein Kiel. Arminia Biefeld will be playing in the Bundesliga next season after a 2-0 win away at Stuttgart. Robert Lewandowski made history in Bayern's 5-2 win over Augsburg as he has now scored the most goals in a Bundesliga season with 41, breaking Gerd Muller's record of 40. It was also goodbye to David Alaba, Jerome Boateng, Javi Martinez and Hansi Flick as they will be leaving Bayern after the season. Borussia Dortmund finished the season well with a 3-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen. Dortmund also said goodbye to defender Lukasz Piszczek as he will be leaving Dortmund. Mainz came from behind to beat Wolfsburg 3-2, pulling them closer to mid-table. Union Berlin will play European football next season after beating RB Leipzig at home 2-1. Eintracht Frankfurt finished in the Europa League places after a 3-1 win over Freiburg while Hoffenheim won 2-1 over Hertha.
All 10 games were played on Sunday simultaneously to determine each team's final position. The main focus was who misses out on Champions League football next season. Liverpool will play in the Champions League next season after a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace with Sadio Mané scoring a brace while being Roy Hodgson's final game as Crystal Palace boss. Chelsea lost 2-1 to Aston Villa at Villa Park with Edouard Mendy sustaining an injury which leaves a doubt for next week's Champions League final. Fortunately for Tuchel and Chelsea, they will play in the Champions League next season because Leicester City missed their chance after losing 4-2 to Tottenham. Jamie Vardy scored twice for the Foxes but Goals from Harry Kane, Gareth Bale and an own goal from Kasper Schmeichel means that the FA Cup winners will be playing in the Europa League. Manchester City says goodbye to Sergio Agüero with a 5-0 win over Everton and the league trophy presentation with the Argentine scoring a brace. West Ham will be playing European football after beating Southampton 3-0 at the London stadium. Despite winning 2-0 against Brighton at home, Arsenal will not be playing European football for the first time in 25 years. Nuno Santo managed Wolves for the last time with a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United as his four-year stay at the Molineux comes to an end. Sheffield United played their final Premier League game with a 1-0 win over Burnley, Fulham lost 2-0 to Newcastle United while Leeds finished the season strongly with a 3-1 win over West Brom.
La Liga
The title race to win La Liga came down to the final game of the season. It was either going to be between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. Real Madrid faced Villarreal at home and despite going down 1-0, they came from behind to win the game 2-1. However, they needed Real Valladolid to at least draw against Atléti and they almost did, going up 1-0. Despite that, goals from Ángel Correa and Luis Suárez gave Atlético a 2-1 win, making them league champions in the process. Huesca played a goalless draw with Valencia, which was not enough as they are now relegated from La Liga. Elche stayed up in the process with a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, who finished in the top half. Aleksandr Isak scored a late winner for Real Sociedad, beating Osasuna 1-0, finishing 5th. Sevilla finished 4th after a 1-0 win over Alaves with Papu Gomez scoring. Barcelona was without Lionel Messi for the final game of their season, but they already relegated Eibar 1-0 from Antonie Griezmann. Levante and Cadiz played out a 2-2 draw on Friday, Real Betis will play in the Europa League next season after a 3-2 win over Celta Vigo while Granada played a goalless draw with Getafe.
Serie A
The final weekend of the Serie A season came ahead with the Champions League places still to be determined between AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli. Inter Milan lifted the Scudetto after smashing Udinese 5-1 with Romelu Lukaku completing this remarkable season with 24 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo did not start in Juventus' final game against Bologna but it did matter as the Old Lady won 4-1 with Alvaro Morata scoring a brace. AC Milan returns to the Champions League for the first time in eight years after beating Atalanta 2-0 with Franck Kessie scoring both goals from the penalty spot. Napoli missed out on Champions League football after a 1-1 draw to Verona at home, which could be Gattuso's final game as Napoli manager. Paulo Fonseca managed AS Roma for the last time with a 2-2 draw against Spezia. Jose Mourinho will take control of the capital club next season. Lazio will play in the Europa League next season despite losing 2-0 to Sassuolo. Crotone finished off their Serie A season with a goalless draw with Fiorentina. Sampdoria finished in the top half of the table after beating already relegated Parma 3-0 while Genoa beat Cagliari 1-0. Benevento played a 1-1 draw with Torino but Benevento will be playing in Serie B next season.
