Football Weekend Recap

 Serie A Action

33 goals were scored from this past weekend in Serie A, with only two teams unable to score. One of those teams was surprisingly Napoli. They fell short against attacking hotshots Sassuolo, losing the game 2-0. A penalty from Manuel Locatelli and a late goal from Maxime Lopez enabled the Neroverdi to pull off a big win against a Napoli side that have started the season well, scoring 14 goals from their six games played. Cristiano Ronaldo made his return to the Juventus squad after contracting coronavirus in early October, missing four games in the process. He made up for the lost time, coming off from the bench to score a brace in Juventus' 4-1 win against Spezia on Sunday. Alvaro Morata and Adrien Rabiot also got themselves on the scoresheet but the Old Lady will be glad that Ronaldo is back in the fold. Ivan Perisic scored in the 92nd minute to salvage a point for Inter Milan as they drew 2-2 against Parma with former Arsenal winger Gervinho scoring a brace for Parma. A frantic seven-goal thriller was played between Lazio and Torino. Lazio came from 3-2 down in the 95th minute to score two late goals, winning the game 4-3 with Ciro Immobile and Felipe Caicedo scoring for Le Aquile. Zlatan Ibrahimovic came to the rescue for AC Milan, scoring in the 83rd minute as the Rossoneri beat Udinese 2-1. Luis Muriel scored twice in Atalanta's 2-1 win against Crotone, Bologna beat Cagliari 3-2, Sampdoria and Genoa shared the points while Roma beat Fiorentina 2-0.

Premier League Action

23 goals were scored in the Premier League this past weekend. There were no draws from the eight games played with four teams being able to keep a clean sheet. One of the teams to keep a clean sheet was Arsenal. Mikel Arteta's side pulled a 1-0 win against Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ended his goal drought, scoring from the penalty as Hector Bellerin was fouled in the United box by Paul Pogba. The Gabonese striker converted from the spot to give Arsenal their first win at Old Trafford since 2006, and their first win against a top-six side away from home since January 2015. Chelsea played probably their most convincing performance of the season against Burnley at Turf Moor, winning the game 3-0. Hakim Ziyech, Kurt Zouma, and Timo Werner scored for the Blues as Burnley hardly laid a glove against Frank Lampard's side as they were second best for the whole game while Chelsea has now gone four games without conceding a goal. Kyle Walker scored against Sheffield United, his former club, in Manchester City's 1-0 win against Sheffield United at Sheffield. That's back-to-back clean sheets for Pep Guardiola's side as they prepare for a massive clash at home against Liverpool next week. Speaking of Liverpool, they managed to come from a goal down to beat West Ham United 2-1 with Diogo Jota coming to the rescue once again, coming from the bench to score the winner. Gareth Bale scored his first goal for Spurs in seven years, which proved to be the winner in Tottenham's 2-1 win against Brighton on Sunday. Wolves beat Crystal Palace 2-0 while Aston Villa pulled off a late surge that wasn't enough as they lost to Southampton 4-3, even going 4-0 down. It's a sour victory for the Saints as striker Danny Ings went off injured, with fears that he could be out for a lengthy period.

Bundesliga Action

22 goals were in the Bundesliga this weekend with only two sides keeping a clean sheet in the Bundesliga. One of those teams was Borussia Monchengladbach. They played against league toppers RB Leipzig at BORUSSIA-Park on Saturday. An even game in terms of possession, Leipzig had a bigger shot count than Gladbach but Die Borussen made theirs count as Hannes Wolf scored in the 60th minute, giving Gladbach a 1-0 win against Leipzig. Which is Leipzig's first league defeat of the season. Mats Hummels scored twice in Borussia Dortmund's 2-0 against Arminia, giving the Black and Yellow five wins from their six league games played, conceding only two goals. They have an identical record against Bayern Munich, who won their game 2-1 against FC Koln. A goal from Serge Gnarby and a penalty from Thomas Muller gave the defending champions a win despite Dominick Drexler scoring late for the hosts. A penalty from Nicolas Gonzalez denied Schalke a first win of the season as Die Knappen drew 1-1, still in the relegation zone with only two points. Andre Hahn scored twice Augsburg's 3-1 against Mainz while Eintracht Frankfurt and Werder Bremen shared the points between them. Hertha Berlin's flattering start continues as they drew 1-1 against Wolfsburg while Lucas Alario scored a brace for Bayer Leverkusen in their 4-2 win against Freiburg on Sunday.

La Liga Action

31 goals were scored this past weekend in La Liga, although some teams were a little naughty that referees have to take action, with five red cards shown. Two of those red cards were shown in the same match, which was Valencia's 2-2 draw against Getafe on Sunday. Thierry Correia got sent off as Valencia went down to ten men before Damian Suarez was sent off very late in the game as Valencia was awarded a penalty very late, which was converted by Carlos Soler. Eden Hazard scored his first goal for Real Madrid in over a year as Los Blancos beat Huesca 4-1 with a Karim Benzema brace and a goal from Federico Valverde. Antonie Griezmann scored an equalizer for Barcelona as they managed to take a point against Alaves despite dominating the game from ball possession, passes, and shots. Joao Felix continued his fine start to the season, scoring a brace in Atletico Madrid's 3-1 win over Osasuna. Athletic Bilbao managed to come from a goal down to beat Sevilla 2-1 at home on Saturday with Oihan Sanchet scoring the winner for the hosts. Cadiz sits fourth in the table after their 2-0 win against Eibar on Friday. So far, Cadiz has won four of their eight league games, and have won three of their last five games. A really good start for the Yellow Submarine. Cristian Tello scored a brace for Real Betis in their 3-1 win against Elche while Granada played a 1-1 draw against Levante. Real Sociedad's great start to the season continues, after beating Celta Vigo 4-1 with Willian Jose scoring a brace with David Silva and Mikel Oyarzabal also scoring. This puts La Real top of the league with 17 points while Real Madrid sits behind with a game in hand.

Player of the Weekend: Gabriel (Arsenal)

Arsenal pulled off a 1-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford, which is their first win at Old Trafford since 2006. It was a strong performance from the Gunners, thanks to the great work of defender Gabriel. The Brazilian defender made 66 touches, won 7 duels, 5 ball recoveries, 4 clearances and made 5 tackles. He has impressed since coming from Lille, with Arsenal having the best defence in the league so far with only 7 goals conceded.
