Football Weekend Recap

Premier League Action Twenty-nine goals were scored this past weekend with two matches left, with penalties galore as seven penalties were awarded this past weekend. The highlight match of the weekend was Manchester City 5-2 home defeat to Leicester City. Jamie Vardy netted a hat-trick, with two goals from the penalty spot while James Maddison netted an absolute peach of a goal as Pep Guardiola has to sort out City's defensive woes this season as this is the first time in his managerial career that he has conceded five goals in a home game. For Brendan Rodgers' side, this was their first win away from home since January, and Vardy already has five goals this season, tied with Everton's Dominic Calvert-Levin. Bruno Fernandes scored a 100th minute penalty to give Manchester United their first win of the season in a quite fortunate 3-2 win against Brighton which was engulfed in some controversy, particularly with the late penalty that was given to United. European Football Season Preview

The 2020/2021 Football season has gone underway with the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Serie A all in action. The Premier League has been covered, so this is on the Bundesliga, La Liga, and Serie A to look at how this season will pan out from the title race to the race for European places.  La Liga The 2020/2021 La Liga season started on the 12th of September with Eibar playing against Celta Vigo, which ended in a goalless draw. The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atlético Madrid rested on the first weekend due to their participation in the latter stages of the Champions League last season. Barcelona has dominated La Liga over the past decade, winning six titles between 2011 to 2020. However, the Blaugrana missed out on the title last season to Real Madrid, with Zidane's side favourites to retain La Liga this season. Barcelona's troubles both on and off the field have not made things a lot easier, with heavy surgery required to get close to their main rivals. Al

First Weekend of the Premier League The Premier League made its return for the 2020/2021 season. Given how the 2019/2020 season ended, this coming season is going to be an odd one due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the tight fixture set-up of the new season. Nevertheless, we are all excited that the new season is underway. The first game of the season was Fulham hosting Arsenal at Craven where the Gunners blasted their opponents away with a 3-0 victory. Alexandre Lacazette scored the first goal of the season, putting the ball in the back of the net from two yards out after some heavy pressure that Fulham found it difficult to defend. New Arsenal signing Gabriel opened his Premier League account with a goal. The Brazilian scored from a set-piece early in the second half, with an Arsenal victory looking more imminent. Willian also had a good debut, creating two assists. The other was a long ball which found Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who put his shot in the top corner as Mikel Arteta

SOUTHAMPTON. FINAL POSITION: 10TH Southampton finished 11th last season but following their 9-0 home defeat to Leicester City, staying up for the Saints would have been enough to make it a successful season. They did not get themselves in a relegation battle as Southampton finished the season on a high. Ralph Hassenhuttl has already made plans for the coming season, signing Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu and English defender Kyle Walker-Peters. They have lost midfield stalwart Pierre-Emile Højbjerg to Spurs, Mario Lemina moved to Fulham, Cédric and Maya Yoshida have all moved away from St. Mary. Danny Ings had an incredible season, scoring 22 goals with only Jamie Vardy scoring more. However, he was the only Saints player to score ten goals or more with James Ward-Prowse and Stuart Armstrong the next top scorers with only 5 each. Much more will have to come from Che Adams, who had a poor debut season in the Premier League but finished off last season quite well. Hassenhuttl has

The 2020/2021 Premier League season is just a couple of days away. Bayern Munich had a season to remember. The Bavarian club under Hansi Flick won the Bundesliga at a canter, scoring a century of goals and finished 22 points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund. They also won the DFB-Pokal, beating Bayer Leverkusen 4-2. They won the UEFA Champions League for the first time in seven years, beating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 thanks to Kingsley Coman, winning every game in winning the trophy which included an 8-2 victory over Barcelona in the quarterfinals. The last time won a treble was back in 2013 under manager Jupp Heynckes. The team in 2013 is very fondly remembered as one of the best teams of the last decade, winning the Bundesliga with an incredible 91 points from 34 games, winning the DFB-Pokal against Stuttgart 3-2, and winning the UEFA Champions League 2-1 against Borussia Dortmund. So who was the starting XI of that iconic team? We will take a look. (Players who played the most minutes in all competitions that season). GOALKEEPER - MANUE
