Can Arsenal Topple Liverpool at Anfield?

The Premier League season is still at its infancy but we have a pulsating game to look forward to when Liverpool host Arsenal on Saturday at Anfield. Both teams are the only ones that have a hundred percent over their last two games meaning something's got to give. History is not on the Gunner's side. They have won at Anfield since September 2012 and have conceded 22 goals in their last six games. Given their poor record away from home last season, this is something Arsenal need to rectify.

Liverpool do have their fearsome front three plus the presence of Virgil van Dijk but the Gunners do have weapons of their own that could Liverpool. Aresnal's record signing, Nicolas Pépé will be given his full debut and will play alongside Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick-Aubamenyang, with a lot of attention on the Ivorian. Pépé will enable Arsenal to exploit the flanks with Pépé's direct running as well as his pressing which will be important in defending from the front.

Liverpool's defence has not looked like what it was for much of last season and while the loss of Alisson has played a part to that, it's not because they are without the Brazilian. Liverpool's defensive line has been pushed a lot higher in their first four games this season. It does make sense as Liverpool's defence have enough pace to get the ball back or use the offside trap. However, it is still a risky move. Norwich, Chelsea and Southampton were still able to crave out chances and with Arsenal's attack, that could spell trouble.

There is also Dani Ceballos. The midfielder have an excellent home debut last weekend against Burnley and he could exploit Liverpool's weakness in midfield. Ceballos is a technically gifted player but is also combative as well as being press resistant meaning he is able to beat past the Liverpool press which can give Arsenal the advantage in midfield. To beat Liverpool, you have to win the battle in midfield against Liverpool's shuttling midfield three so Unai Emery needs to set up his midfield right this weekend.

Liverpool are still heavy favourites to get all three points. Their record against Arsenal is encouraging, they haven't lost at Anfield in over two years now and Roberto Firmino who has scored eight goals in eight games against Arsenal, scoring more goals against them than anyone else. However, if Arsenal are to go places this season, they have to get points off the top six. Arsenal got just two points against their top six rivals away from home last season so a point will be a very encouraging result but a strong performance could convince many that Arsenal don't have a soft spot anymore.
