This weekend's Match Previews
This weekend is bringing some blockbuster games before the international break with the Manchester Derby in the Premier League, Der Klassiker in the Bundesliga and AC Milan taking on Juventus in the Serie A. Here's the match preview of each of these three games.
EPL: The Manchester Derby
The Manchester Derby is here again as Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola lock horns again at the Etihad on Sunday. Manchester City are the team to beat this season dropping just four points in their 11 games played in the league and have only been behind for just 12 minutes. City with their potent attack have also been strong at the back conceding just 6.5 shots per game. The least in the division. The City player to highlight would be Raheem Sterling who has become such a fearsome attacker this season making a goal contribution every 70 minutes as well as making 2.7 shots per game and 2.3 key passes per game. So for Manchester United, they would have to try really hard not only keeping City quiet but also getting at them. However, they have been gaining some momentum with their recent win against Juventus in the UCL and with Anthony Martial leading the line with 5 league goals in just 6 starts. Despite Mourinho's record against Pep, United will clearly by up for it as they were the last team to beat City in the Etihad in the league.
Bundesliga: Der Klassiker
The biggest match-up in the Bundesliga has come in Der Klassiker as Borussia Dortmund host Bayern Munich on Saturday at the Westfalenstadion. With both teams going through transitions with new managers, there have contrasting fortunes. Bayern Munich haven't been as dominating in recent years sitting in third four points behind Dortmund. While injuries haven't been on their side with Corentin Tolisso, Kingsley Coming and Thiago all out due to injury, they haven't winning with only two wins in their last 6 league games and despite taking more shots than anyone in the Bundesliga, they only have a conversion rate of 9%. Borussia Dortmund on the other hand, have been flying this season. Losing just once in all competitions, BVB have scored the most goals with 30 as well as having one of the best young talent in Jadon Sancho who has 4 goals, 6 assists and is making 1.9 key passes, the most in Dortmund. While Bayern have had the upper hand in recent years, this is now a level playing field and will be Dortmund's biggest test.
Serie A: AC Milan V Juventus
Juventus suffered their first defeat of the season losing to Manchester United in the UCL midweek and will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Milan. Juventus have been such a juggernaut in the Serie A this season. Dropping just once, they have been getting results despite Allegri's constant rotation. The player to highlight for the Old Lady is no surprise, Cristiano Ronaldo who adjusted well in Serie A with 7 goals and 5 assists as well as taking 7.5 shots per game. Milan, have been on great form winning five of their last six games. The Rossoneri have taken about 18.3 per game with Juve and Napoli taking more and having the second most goals in open play. Questions remain whether Gonzalo Higuaín will be fit following a back injury with Suso their most potent player scoring 4 and assisting 8. With only one win against teams from the top 5 from last season, this would be an Achilles heel for Milan.
