3 things from the Premier League yesterday

As the final week of matches before the international break, teams will be looking to assess their season thus far having played seven games with more to come. Gameweek 8 in the Premier League saw Brighton beat West Ham on Friday with six games played on Saturday. Wolves made it four wins in five games beating Crystal Palace 1-0 while Huddersfield and Cardiff City remain winless with Huddersfield earning a 1-1 draw against Burnley while Cardiff lost to Spurs 1-0. Everton got their first away win of the season at the King Power beating Leicester City 2-1 while Bournemouth hammered Watford 4-0. At the evening kick-off, Manchester United came from two goals down to beat Newcastle United 3-2 ending a four game winless run in all competitions. Here are the 3 things learned from yesterday.

Mourinho’s safe. For now, at least.

It feels so tiring taking about Mourinho and Manchester United’s woes this season. Rumours circulated that Jose Mourinho will be booted out of the job if he fails to get a result against Newcastle United. In the first half, it looked inevitable conceding two goals in the first 10 minutes with no comeback on sight but in the second half, it came with Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez scoring to complete a comeback and easing pressure off Mourinho which he really needs. However, this was done against a Championship quality Newcastle side who have earned just two points from seven games showing the flaws in that United squad particularly in defence with United keeping just one clean sheet so far this season. But the Red Devils deserved their win which they really need. Turning a corner?

Nice away day for the Cherries

Despite the pre-season predictions that they will struggle this season, Bournemouth have had a great start to the season getting 13 points from their seven games as they went to Vicarage Road to face Watford, who have started well but have fallen off recently. It was a one-sided affair as the Cherries smashed the Hornets 4-0 giving them their biggest victory in the top-flight. Eddie Howe’s side went in front in the 14th minute before Joshua King converted from the penalty spot after Christian Kabasele was sent off for conceding the penalty. He added a second goal before providing an assist for Callum Wilson. This puts Bournemouth fifth in the league with 16 points after 8 games. It took them 16 games last season to match that.

Sigurdsson Stunner

Gylfi Sigurdsson netted his 50th Premier League goal in stunning fashion giving Everton a 2-1 win against Leicester City giving Marco Silva his first away win as Everton boss climbing the Toffees up to 11th. Richarlison, playing up front, netted his fourth goal of the season very early in the first half from a cross by Bernand, who made his first league start since his move to Goodison Park. Ricardo Pereira equalized for the home side. Richarlison was difficult to handle for the Foxes as Wes Morgan was sent off after being already booked for bringing down the Brazilian. In the 77th minute, Gylfi Sigurdsson netted the winner from 30 yards leaving Kasper Schmeichel no chance. Now the main No.10, the Icelandic midfielder is looking more comfortable and is taking more responsibility for Everton.
