Sunday EPL Roundup

Manchester City and Manchester United were in action today as the defending champions faced Huddersfield Town at the Etihad while the Red Devils travelled to the Amex to face Brighton and Hove Albion. Burnley were also in action as they face Watford. It was a mixed day for the Manchester clubs. Manchester City annihilated Huddersfield winning the game 6-1 with Sergio Aguero scoring his 9th hat-trick in the Premier League. United were in the receiving end of a shock defeat losing to Brighton 3-2 with goals from Glenn Murray, Shane Duffy and Pascal Gross. Watford made it two wins out of two beating Sean Dyche’s side 3-1. Here are the three things from today’s matches.

City The Machine

Manchester City put Huddersfield Town to the sword with such a commanding performance that displayed how much of a machine Pep Guardiola has made them. Losing Kevin De Bryune for about three months through injury, they did not miss him one bit showing how deadly and clinical they are. Starting with a back three, Benjamin Mendy was given so much freedom from the left-hand side that the Terriers couldn’t handle. Sergio Aguero was again the man of the show. Playing alongside Gabriel Jesus, the pair scored 4 goals of City’s six with the Argentine scoring a hat-trick. His 9th in the Premier League. David Sliva and Ilkay Gundogan made things tidy in midfield with the Spainard scoring from a great free-kick. Ederson also got on the act kicking a long ball for Aguero to pounce. This was without Sane, Sterling and Mahrez. Who can stop this juggernaut?

The Seagulls Fly High

Brighton manager Chris Hughton kept the same line-up from their opening day defeat to Watford and the players repaid their faith in him. The only altercation was with their captain Lewis Dunk whose game ended early with injury with Leon Balogun coming on. The Seagulls were smart in how they did things and worked in full effect. Glenn Murray opening the scoring with a sweet touch that in unheard off while Shane Duffy added the second from a corner. Pascal Gross would be glad that his penalty went in after touching De Gea but Brighton were by far the better side leaving United little to work with and forcing to make mistakes to start their attacks. Despite signing a lot of players during the transfer window, Brighton relied on the players that kept them up and worked.

United Poor in Unison

With how good Brighton were, Manchester United were simply awful today. Their defence was porous making mistakes for Brighton to capitalize on. Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof struggled today with both making poor decisions and having lapse in concentration that costed United dearly including conceding a penalty. Another disappointing factor with the poor cohesion in attack. Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial did not click with Juan Mata having little to no effect out wide. With both goals coming from a flick header by Romelu Lukaku and a late penalty by Paul Pogba, there was much to be desired from United’s attack. Not Great from all parts.
