Barcelona & Messi: The End?

Image
Things aren't so sunny in Barcelona. Following a very disappointing season, Barcelona look set for a revamp. Quique Setién is gone with Ronald Koeman appointed to take charge of that rebuild. Several players have been put on sale with the likes of Luis Suárez, Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitić, and Jordi Alba all on sale or worst-case scenario, have their contracts terminated. However, the biggest discussion has been the future of Lionel Messi. The Argentine has talked with new coach Ronald Koeman and, has stated that he feels more out of the club than in. Now, reports have confirmed that Lionel Messi has asked to leave the club by activating an exit clause on his contract or to have his contract terminated which expires in 2021. This has sparked the entire football world into a frenzy. People are shocked that Messi, Barcelona's greatest player is leaving the club. Particularly under these circumstances. How did this happen and will this affect his legacy in Barcelona? Lionel Mess

Bayern Complete Season with a Treble Bayern Munich ended their 2019/20 season with an unprecedented treble as they won the Champions League for the sixth time in the club's history, after beating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon. Both teams have won their leagues and the domestic cup competition with winning the Champions League the icing on the cake. Both Thomas Tuchel and Hansi Flick made little changes to their starting lineups with Keylor Navas returning from injury for PSG while Kingsley Coman started ahead of Ivan Perišić for Bayern Munich. Despite no goals in the first half, it was a tense game with both sides giving each other little opportunity to strike a blow. The first big chance of the game came from Neymar, who had his shot saved by Manuel Neuer and had another opportunity but the German keeper blocked the shot. Àngel Di Maria had a massive opportunity to get PSG in front, as the Argentine was laid a chance from 10 yards but blazed his s

So, the UEFA Champions League Final is finally upon us. The 2019/2020 Champions League season has already given us some fantastic moments from the emergence of Eerling Håland, Atlético Madrid stunning Liverpool at Anfield, the feel-good story of Atalanta, RB Leipzig reaching the semifinals, Ligue 1 not really a farmer's league and Bayern's absolute destruction of Barcelona. The final was to take place at the Atatürk Stadium in Istanbul on May 30th. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the latter stages of the competition were postponed until August with UEFA deciding to play the latter stages in Portugal, with no fans in attendance. The restart continued where we left off and now, we have our finalists with Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint-Germain facing Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich on Sunday at the Estádio da Luz. For PSG, this is their golden opportunity to get the holy grail they crave while Bayern is achieving a treble for the second time in the club's history. Here is

The Europa League Final is set to take place on Friday at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, Germany with Sevilla and Inter Milan battling out for Europe's secondary cup competition. The final was suppose to take place at the Stadion Energa Gdańsk in Gdańsk, Poland on May 27th. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the later stages of the competition were postponed. The competition resumed in July with the knockout stages of the competition still to be completed. The games were played in Germany in order for the teams to be together in one space and for safety precautions. Also, all their knockout stages were played without any fans in attendance. The knockout games are now finally completed with Inter Milan facing Sevilla. Both teams have had different runs in reaching the final as Julen Lopetegui and Antonio Conte look to finish their seasons on a high. Here is their stories on their road to Cologne. SEVILLA Sevilla are the most successful team in the history of the

What Now For Barcelona?

Image
To say that Barcelona's season has been a failure would be the biggest understatement of the year. The Spanish giants complete the 2019/2020 season without any major silverware for the first time since 2008, losing the La Liga title to Real Madrid. They were knocked out of the Copa Del Rey to Athletic Bilbao and were completely humiliated in the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich who inflicted an 8-2 defeat, Barcelona's worst defeat in 75 years. Barcelona's decline has been noticeable for some time from the Roma defeat to the capitulation at Anfield last year. A team that was seen as the gold standard of club football just about a decade ago are a shadow of their former selves with drama both on and off the field, an ageing squad and a heavy reliance on Lionel Messi to make things happen. The embarrassment against Bayern truly marked the end of an era for Barcelona with massive wholesale changes needed to refresh the squad. There is also a question mark
